Too Good to be true

Thu Feb 10, 2011, 7:03 AM
No Llamas please

After my previous journal and my really good day. My little bit of extra money just flew right out the window. For the past few days I have noticed the monitor on my main computer has been really slow to get going and kept going off. This morning the best I could get from it was a few seconds, then it was off again. I have all my main stuff on that machine, so I immediately looked for another 22" monitor. I found one for 2/3rd what I paid for the old one and it will be delivered tomorrow before 1.pm... I had just paid £100 off my credit card too, so there goes my attempts to not have any debts... However I see it that if I had not had the good day, I would not have been able to replace the monitor so at least it has done that for me.

If you think your monitor is duff, disconnect it from the pc and just plug it into the mains. If it still keeps going off it is a dead duck. If it all works then it is probably the graphic card.

I did have the previous one for over 3 years and it was on most of the day... Lets hope I get 3 years out of the replacement... Nothing you can do with a broken monitor. Shucks!

So probably no fractals today as all my post work software is on the other machine... I may manage a basic Apo and that will be it.

Live long and prosper folks. Well at least have all you need.

Too bad you're across an ocean from me, Roz. I have 5 extra monitors cluttering up my apartment, and I'd be glad to give you one.

How lovely of you to offer. I have the new one. I also found a repair kit for the old one for $11, my son will sort it next time I see him. Nothing really lost. Just knowing how and keeping all my gear working.

I was surprised how much smaller the new 22" monitor is compared to the previous one, due to the new wide screen, I lost 2 " from the height, 1/2 " from the width too... Yet they are both 22" monitors. No wonder the new one was £60 less cost.

Thanks again for you kindness.

When they're measuring the monitor, the 22" is from top left to bottom right corner diagonally, and the measurement is often rounded up from 21.5". There's a lot of wiggle room there to change height and width but still have the monitor technically be the same size.

Thanks Lois. I looked up the spares to repair the old one, about $10 so I am going to offer the old one to my ex with the kit. I can't use solder, allergy, he s well able to fix it. He will be able to watch movies on it...

Wow! I use a laptop for everything. if that goes it would totally suck. I'm happy that you were given the extra money to buy the monitor. It seems that someone or something watches over us and only gives us what we need, nothing more.

That is exactly right, however I used to be able to use my arranged overdraft with the bank to pay bills if I was a bit short and as it was all prearranged it really helped me out. Now of course I can't do that any more and have to make sure I have the money in hand for bills and rent. Not easy at all.
