Remember the good day...

Mon Feb 14, 2011, 9:05 AM
No Llamas please

My journal about 3 back was referring to a great day I had... Since then, things have not been so good. I still have not had the money from the insurance deal... Yet I have been notified that my rent will be subject to an increase of £16 a week, more than 4 times my pension rise. £64 a month, that is more than 2 weeks food money, so I really need to sell some of my art. Or I could lose my house.

I paid £100 off my credit card; thinking I would be getting the money back from the insurance deal; then my 22inch monitor packed up. As I need to access all the stuff on that PC I ordered another, yes you guessed it with the £100 I had just knocked off my credit card, plus a bit extra for tax and postage.. Well I got it all plugged in and was amazed at it's brilliance. I think the old one must have been fading away for a while...

Well when you buy a new monitor to replace a broken one you kind of expect it to be the same size as the old one if in  fact you have actually ordered one that is the same size to start with. Yes; the prices have come down, well so has the size... The new 22" monitor now measures on the diagonal 21.5" and 10.5" height. The old one measures 22" corner to corner however it is 12" deep... That's rather a lot of screen space I have lost for my money if you think about it, not going to do the maths right now. I am sure you get the drift...

This is supposed to be in line with all the wide screen TV's and games. Fair enough, however I do fractals not many games... My fractals fit in a smaller space in the middle of the beautiful much smaller screen.

The next step was to see if the old monitor could be repaired... Good news is that it can, however the kit producers don't ship to the UK, so a friend is getting one for me and posting it on. My son will sort it out next time he visits, I cannot solder as I am allergic to flux, despite being a computer builder. It looks pretty easy to do, I think the hardest part will be taking it all to bits to get at the capacitors. The repair kit for all of you who are interested is just $11... So if your monitor dies, don't give up on it, it is possible to get them repaired. You just need to look for the right kit and have someone who can solder.

Well hope you are all having a good day. Sorry I have not been very enthusiastic about all the hearts and love messages. This Valentine stuff makes me miss my ex even more. In 1984 on Valentines day we decided to get married...

Thanks for being there.

That happens to me all the time too, Roz. Every time I think I'm ahead money wise, something else comes up and I'm right back where I started. I just spent over a thousand dollars getting my car fixed and now my DVD player is kaput. Just can't win.

I'm blue today too. Valentine's Day just reminds me of what I had and lost. :sadangel:

That's me too Kim. However I don't have the burden of a car to worry about thank goodness.

Play DVD's on your computer... Here we can buy individual DVD players, the sort you use with a TV for less that £20. My daughter bought me one for my birthday last year. However I always watch movies on my computer, that's one reason why I have a big monitor...

Sometimes two of my old dance students come round and we sit up here to watch stuff on the computer. My computer room has become the heart of the house really. I don't sit in the living room as it is a family room and I am on my own. I like to sit up here much better. I can keep in touch with my friends this way.
